Synopsis: Mercy Thompson’s life has undergone a seismic change. Becoming the mate of Adam Hauptman—the charismatic Alpha of the local werewolf pack—has made her a stepmother to his daughter Jesse, a relationship that brings moments of blissful normalcy to Mercy’s life. But on the edges of humanity, what passes for a minor mishap on an ordinary day can turn into so much more…

After an accident in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Mercy and Jesse can’t reach Adam—or anyone else in the pack for that matter. They’ve all been abducted.

Through their mating bond, all Mercy knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. With the werewolves fighting a political battle to gain acceptance from the public, Mercy fears Adam’s disappearance may be related—and that he and the pack are in serious danger. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from any ally she can get, no matter how unlikely.

Review: It was a lovely thanksgiving dinner with the werewolf pack. Mercy and her new teenage daughter decided to start black Friday shopping. Something happened to her car and she needed to get a hold of her mate Adam. She calls... no answer. Then calls other pack members... no answer. It turns out the whole pack was kidnapped by some unknown group. Adam was being blackmailed into killing a politician or his pack would die one by one. Now, if you're into the Mercy Thompson series you should know that doesn't fly with Mercy. She grabs her daughter along with a few other recurring character and pretty much kicks butt the whole book.

What really caught me off guard when reading was a chapter that said "Adam" on top. Before continuing I thought to myself "Oh. My. God. Tell me this is Adams point of view!" After the first sentence of the chapter I was bursting with joy! We finally get to see how Adam thinks, why he does certain actions, how he really feels when he's with Mercy, how much love they both have together... IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL! This book has more romance then all the other books combined. More kissing, cuddling, and cuteness between Adam and Mercy. You see them become a real couple and it's so interesting to watch.

The plot is amazing. I was hooked on every page and couldn't put it down. It's so hard to grasp how Mercy is alive so far. She puts herself in SO much danger it's insane how lucky she is to come out of it. I'm actually glad she has cuts, bruises and broken bones because it makes her a relatable character. She's not super woman and has weaknesses. What I like about her is she makes smart decisions and doesn't run in on danger because she can. That's how I feel other books are... the character just does a stupid action and then they automatically become too stupid too live. Mercy is too lucky to live. It's fine though, I still love her!

I liked this one a lot too. While I still think that River Marked was the best after the first book, this one comes next in my mind.

The only thing I didn't like was that a big bad werewolf monster shows up and really is not used in the plot at all. It felt like he had a big scene but it was removed later and he's just there doing nothing.

Gah, I hate it when books do that. Introduce a great character but do nothing with it. I totally understand you!

I love the Mercy series. I haven't read this one yet though. Thanks for the review.

Sounds good!
